BASKETBALL

Steve Ray, men’s head basketball coach at Carthage High School, will hold summer camp  youth basketball players.

Youth Basketball Camp, in conjunction with the Fair Acres YMCA will be held July 13-17, for ages 4-7 years old from 8-10 a.m. and ages 8-12 years old from 10 a.m. to noon. The camp cost $30 for YMCA members and $45 for non-members. For information, please contact the YMCA at 358-1070 or call Coach Ray to register or request information at 359-7010 ext. 23108.

FOOTBALL

The Joplin Football Officials Association (JFOA) will continue new football officials training at Southwest Missouri Bank’s Community Room, located at Zora Avenue and Range Line Road, today at 6:45pm. This meeting will provide information on the rules for High School Football Officiating. Additional training dates are, July 1, July 22 and Aug. 12.

These sessions are intended to give interested individuals the basic requirements to become a High School football official.

VOLLEYBALL

Butch Loveall, Carthage High school head volleyball coach, will hold summer camp for junior high players.

The junior high camp, which cost $30, will be held July 27-30, at the Carthage High School gymnasium.

WRESTLING

Kenny Brown, Carthage High School head wrestling coach, will hold summer wrestling camp, beginning Monday, July 27.

The camp, which concludes on Thursday, July 30, will be located at the Carthage High School auxiliary gymnasium.

Kid’s camp, which cost $25, will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; junior high camp, which cost $30, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon; and high school camp, which cost $30, will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Campers who pre-register will receive a camp T-shirt.  Pre-registrations need to be received no later than July 7.  You can also register on the first day of camp, but a t-shirt will NOT be given to those who register late.

Camp Clinicians: Kenny Brown, Keith Espinosa, Justin Sanderson, Nathan Patrick and Chris Lowe.

RED WHITE AND BOOM 5K RUN

The 10th annual Red, White and Boom Run, sponsored by the Carthage High School cross country team, is set to begin at 7 a.m., Saturday, July 4, at Municipal Park.

Participants can either compete in the 5K run or the fun walk.
Dustin Miller, a CHS graduate, is the defending men’s champion in the 5K, and Courtney Wood, a Neosho native, is the defending women’s champion.

Registration will begin at 6 a.m. in front of Carl Lewton Stadium.

Cost of entry for either race is $12 for all entries submitted by June 30, and $15 after June 30.
There will be seven age divisions for both men and women. The divisions include: 14-and-under, 15-18 years old, 19-29 years old, 30-39 years old, 40-49 years old, 50-59 years old and 60-and-over.

Awards will be given to the individual male/ female winner and to the top three finishers in all age groups.
