Closing ceremonies for the Carthage Youth Softball Girls City League were held Thursday evening at the Fair Acres Sports Complex

The league celebrated one of its most successful seasons, perhaps its greatest, according to Vince Triplett, Carthage Youth Softball president.

“This is one of the best years we’ve had, and we’ve had several,” said Triplett, after handing out trophies and awards to several teams of all ages. “Our numbers this year were the highest ever.
“Our programs are really growing.”

The complex was buzzing with excitement as parents, players, coaches and families gathered to recognize the first and second-place finishers.

Trophies were presented to the first-place winners, and medals were given to the runner-up in each class ranging from 8-and-under through senior league.

All T-ball players received participation trophies, handed out as each team finished its respective season. In addition, Steve and Rita Peterson were on hand to present a check for the money raised in memory and honor of their daughter, Tiffany Peterson.

Although the Carthage Youth Softball season is now over, the 2009 USSSA Mid-State Tournament will be held at the complex, beginning Friday, July 10.
