The second week of the 2009 prep football season produced mixed results for area teams in The Carthage Press coverage area.

Carthage, despite a late comeback against Central Ozark Conference rival Nixa, couldn’t overcome an up-and-down first half, falling 34-25 in the 2009 hope opener at K.E. Baker Stadium. The Tigers remain at home next Friday for a non-conference tilt against Big 8 foe Seneca.

Jasper, believe it or not, is 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Spring River Valley Conference after blanking Diamond 35-0 at Diamond High School. Jasper, after two weeks on the road, comes home in week three for its home opener next Friday against Appleton City.

After hanging on for a win in week one, Miller, ranked fifth in Class 1 this week by the Missouri Associated Press, took care of Sarcoxie 21-0 at Miller High School. Sarcoxie concludes a three-game road trip next Friday at 7 p.m. against Pleasant Hope.

Webb City, coming off a convincing 33-7 victory last week against Harrisonville, came back to roll Rogers, Ark., 46-21 at Rogers High School. The Cardinals, who began a three-game road trip this week, open up play in the Central Ozark Conference against Willard at 7 p.m. next Friday at Willard High School.

See Sunday's edition of The Carthage Press for complete results of Friday's games.
