The Diamond Wildcat wrestling team, in a tune-up for the upcoming district tournament, hosted its annual tournament Saturday.
The dual tournament format saw eight teams compete and the championship went to the Seneca Indians, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 1. Seneca beat Webb City in the championship dual, 59-9.
Monett bested Anderson County, Kan. (Garnett, Kan.) for third place and Diamond defeated Pryor, Okla., for fifth place. Gentry, Ark., defeated Richmond-Central Heights (Kan.) in the seventh-place dual.
All Missouri teams are idle before district competition starts Friday and Saturday. Both Seneca and Diamond will compete in Jefferson City at Blair Oaks High School.
Diamond
The host Wildcats opened with a 39-30 win over Pryor, Okla., and finished with a 30-27 win over Pryor in the fifth-place match.
Diamond lost to Seneca, 79-6 and fell to Anderson County, 42-24, and then beat Central Heights, 36-24.
Seneca
The Indians, in all sense and purpose, dominated the tournament, rolling to a 5-0 record. On the season, Seneca is sporting a 17-1 record in duals.
Along with a win over Diamond, Seneca beat Anderson County (53-15), Pryor, Okla. (69-12), Monett (76-6) and Webb City (59-9).
On the day, Seneca had 11 of the 14 wrestlers go undefeated with 5-0 records. That group included both Byrnes, Harnar, Skaggs, Fortner, Mullin, Webb, Williams, Rhoades, Cumming and Hopper.
