Blue Thunder, a competitive 8-year-old baseball team from Carthage, placed first at the Fourth Annual Lamar Machine Pitch Tournament. 

In the championship, Blue Thunder, thanks to a defensive gem turned in by Jayden Morgan in center field, knocked off the Pittsburg, Kan., Rookies, 5-4 to win the tournament.

Blue Thunder, after finishing pool play last Saturday seeded first, beat Frontenac, Kan., 16-0, and the Baxter Springs, Kan., Bombers, 15-0. 

Blue Thunder, now 16-0 this season, began bracket play with a 5-2 win over Riverton, Kan.,  advancing to play Girard, Kan., which dropped an 11-1 tilt to Carthage.
