Lions add Carl Junction guard to list of recruits

Missouri Southern basketball coach Robert Corn has announced that Joseph Fauvergue will attend Southern and play basketball for the Lions beginning in the fall of 2008.

Fauvergue, a 6-3 185 pound guard, will graduate from Carl Junction High School this May where he was a four year letter winner and a three year starter for Coach Lance Robbins' Bulldogs. Fauvergue helped lead the Bulldogs to three Big 8 Conference titles in four years from 04-05 to 07-08 and is the school's all-time leading scorer at 1,550 points.

Last season he averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, shot 51 percent from the field, 73 percent from the charity stripe and 39 percent from long range, making 50 three pointers. He was a Co-Player of the Year for the Joplin Globe.

He was honorable mention All-Conference in 05-06 before taking first team All-Conference and All-Area nods in 06-07 and 07-08, while being named the Big 8 Player of the Year in 07-08. He was also a McDonald's High School All-American nominee this past year as a senior.

"One of our goals in recruiting was to try to improve our three point shooting," Corn said. " Joe has the capability to be a very good three pointer shooter, but he also has the chance as he gains strength and experience to develop his overall game very nicely."
