The Lady Tigers soccer team fell behind early 2-0 to the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs but rallied with two goals late in the first half and the deciding goal early in the second to notch their second straight victory.
Carthage’s Braylee Vasquez scored the deciding goal less than five minutes into the second half and the Lady Tigers played defense the rest of the way to come away with a 3-2 win and move their record to 2-3 on the season.
“We made mistakes early that let them get out front but we recovered with two goals in the last two or three minutes of the first half to tie it up,” said CHS Coach Chris Rogers. “We moved the ball a lot better and carried the momentum into the second half. We played well until we decided we could score at will and got out of our formation. It’s good to win two in a row though.”
Rogers said Carl Junction scored two goals early in the game, one in the 10th minute and one in the 20th minute of the game.
Jamileth Henriquez got Carthage on the board, followed quickly by the tying score by Jessica Diaz.
The third goal came when Vasquez got inside a group of Lady Bulldogs on a corner kick and managed to punch the goal through a wall of red jerseys.
Carthage outshot Carl Junction 19-8. Carthage goalie Phylicia Lewis made two saves to the Carl Junction goalie’s 11.
The Carthage JV fell in the first game of the double header 1-0. Rogers said the junior varsity teams played only one half of soccer.
The Lady Tiger JV Goalie Ashley Fancher had four saves in that game.
The Lady Tigers play Ozark at home at 5 p.m. Tuesday before going on the road on Thursday to Joplin to play McAuley Catholic.
