Tigers let another late-inning lead slip
Carthage collected a season-high 15 hits against Nevada on Thursday but it wasn’t enough.
Nevada hit two three-run home runs and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Carthage 15-14.
“It’s been a tough week for Tiger baseball,” said Head Coach Scott Quinly after the game. “However, I saw a lot of guys who were very upset after the game and showed a lot of emotion.”
Carthage jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but Nevada fought back with the first of two three-run home runs against Tigers’ starter Tadd Wagner.
Nevada hit its second blast in the bottom of the second as part of a five-run blitz.
Carthage scored six runs in the top of the fourth to retake the lead. The Tigers scratched across one run in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and one more run in the seventh to take a 14-11 lead.
Carthage, however, failed to hold on to the lead for the second consecutive game.
Carthage’s junior varsity scored 11 runs in the first inning and held on to a 15-8 win on Thursday. The Tigers collected 18 hits in the winning effort.
