The Diamond Wildcats had six football players honored when the 2008 Spring River Valley All-Conference team was released.
Standout running back Cameron Scribner was one of three selected to the second team. He also earned second team honors for his play at defensive back.
C.P. Bycroft was picked as a second team linebacker.
Offensive lineman Thaoutou Lor and Kenny Newman were named to the honorable mention team. Also picked to that team was defensive lineman Jon Paul and defensive back Craig VanLue.
The overall selections were dominated by Miller, Greenfield and Pierce City players.
The first team offense included Jared Frey of Pierce City and Miller’s Justin Jack. The running backs included unanimous selection Darin Clark of Miller, as well as Greenfield’s Jordan Riehm and Liberal’s Ethan Bray.
Miller’s Tyler Hinshaw and Pierce City’s Dietrick Sooter was first team selections at wide receiver and Lockwood’s Elijah Lasater was the first team tight end.
The offensive line picks included Miller’s Ryan Morris, Pierce City’s Danny Morrow, Greenfield’s Michael Naylor, Miller’s Damon Demster and Greenfield’s Tyler Ball.
The defensive side of the first team included Morrow, who was a unanimous selection at defensive line, along with Morris from Miller and Gavin Feasal from Greenfield.
Pierce City defensive end Jared Barchak was a unanimous selection. The other end was Greenfield’s Trey Daniel.
The linebackers included Miller’s Derek Jack, Lockwood’s Joseph Preston, Pierce City’s Dustin Crouch and Greenfield’s Jamie Gray.
Pierce City’s Frey, Greenfield’s Daniel Hayes and Lockwood’s Blake Abbiatti were all selected as defensive backs.
Miller’s Sean Erpelding was the return specialist, while teammate Dan Pascal was tabbed as the top kicker. Greenfield’s Riehm was named the first team punter.
The Coach of the Year Award went to Liberal’s Lewis Dunkenson, who guided the Bulldogs to a winning season and a spot in the playoffs.
