With district play looming, the Carthage Merchants won three-of-four games early this week to give them plenty of momentum heading into the postseason.

Carthage began play on Monday with a split against Webb City, winning the first game 15-1 in five innings, before falling 5-4 in the nightcap at Carl Lewton Stadium.

The Merchants plated five runs in the first inning of the opener and never looked back.

On Tuesday, the Merchants pulled out a sweep while hosting Riverton in a doubleheader, 11-1 and 8-7.

Ethan Wiggin collected two hits and blasted a three-run homer in the 11-1 victory. Mark Ryan, Cade Harris and Jordan Musser combined to guide the Merchants on the hill. Riverton failed to collect its first hit until the fifth inning, also scoring its only run of the contest in the frame as well.

Cade Harris doubled and scored to push across the winning run for the Merchants in the nightcap. Zach Powell, Kyle Lee, Luke Gibson and Jonathan Terry saw time on the hill, with Terry picking up the victory for Carthage.
