For dear readers of the Press, you might have noticed a new byline in the paper lately.

Alexandra Rose Nicolas is writing and designing for The Carthage Press this summer, and I hope she receives the warm welcome she deserves. This mass communications major is the hardest worker I have ever seen. She’s a borderline workaholic; dedicated and passionate about everything she does. This girl is going to only make this paper better.

I don’t mean to give her a chip on her shoulder, but it’s all true. In my last two semesters at Missouri Southern, we worked together on the university’s newspaper, The Chart. This is where students learn, grow and change as people before joining the workforce. Besides holding enough hours to be considered a full-time student, some of the Chart staff dedicate long hours to this weekly newspaper. It pushes you as an individual physically, mentally and spiritually.

In my last semester, I was the editor and Alexandra was my wingman. I mean, wing-woman; and I couldn’t have done it without her. Whatever I struggled with, she seemed to flourish and visa versa. It was like good cop bad cop when dealing with the staff, and I was able to loosen up the atmosphere when it got stuffy and she was always there to keep us on track. We were a great team.

Since that precious time, I’m sure she’s only improved herself in all areas of newspaper talent and communication skills. I know because, she’s not the type to let herself slip.

I hope that’s convincing enough to assure the readers of this girl’s potential. If you encounter this redheaded, trendy girl full of pluck, know you’re talking to a professional.

Additionally, Alexandra is backed with other great talent. Two faces the readers should know by now; design ninja David Hoover and sports guru Cody Dyer. The new kid on the block, Kevin McClintock has stepped up and done some great articles so far. And then of course the ladies behind the scenes that do the real work in the office should be recognized for their amazing efforts as well. And last but not least, the paper wouldn’t matter without the great people who deliver the papers to the community. The Carthage Press has a great team, and I hope everybody appreciates them as much as I do.

Happy Fourth of July.
