Did you know that it's only a few weeks until spring?

Did you know that it's only a few weeks until spring?
I know we could still have some bad weather, but I have to look beyond that to plowed fields, buttercups, green leaves, and warm sunshine. You can count on spring. It arrives every year having rested its laurels in the ground for a season or two, waiting to be awakened by the warmth of the morning sun. There are joys in any season, but spring is my favorite.
What seemed to be dead suddenly arises. Tulips push their way through dark soil reaching for the surface to show off their splendor. Daffodils suddenly show up waving their heads as if to say "good morning." Brown grass turns a brilliant green.
What appear to be lifeless trees sprout their leaves, hoping to catch drops of spring rain on their surface. The bees begin to buzz; the birds begin to sing; the earth begins to warm to incubate its young.
Spring causes me to feel young again. It raises my hopes for resurrection life. It fills me with anticipation of its coming beauty, and it's fragrant aromas.
The smell of fresh rain on freshly turned soil reminds me of past pleasant memories and stirs the amateur gardener in my soul. I want to plant something; I want to see something grow and produce fruit.
I want to dig in the dirt and plant my seeds, knowing that within that small round object of a seed lies a beautiful flower waiting to be released.
I'll march through the snows of winter, wrapping myself snugly in my coat and scarf. Winters come and winters go. I'll move through them, secure in the external wrappings of the season, but my destination is spring. Sometimes we feel the winters of our lives will last forever, but rest assured the warm spring will finally arrive with its announcement that winter is past.
“See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.””
Song of Songs‬ ‭2:11-13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Move through your winter.
Spring is coming!
