Mary Caroline Carey, age 86, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Carthage Health and Rehab.

Mary was born March 27, 1923, in Carthage.  She was the daughter of Peter and Helen (Gleason) England. She was a 1941 Carthage High School graduate. Mary was a restaurant owner and operator. She also worked for the Carterville City Hall in the Water Department. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Carthage. She married James F. Carey and he passed away in 1990. 

Survivors include daughters, Carol Lee Myers (Paul) of Alba, and Anne Townsend (William) of Warsaw; sister-in-law, Ruth England and Nephew Rick England, both of Carthage, and a friend a companion, Carl Bridges of Carthage.

Mary was a loving mother with a generous spirit to all who knew her. She loved to be helpful to everyone. She loved and cared for dogs and cats.

Graveside Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Jasper Cemetery – southeast of Carthage on Elm Road & County Lane 80. Jim E. Brock will officiate.  Mary’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 12:30 p.m. at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Joplin Humane Society.  Please visit www.simpsonfh.com for online condolences.
