Virginia Taylor Clark, 95 of Carthage, passed away at 9:55 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010.
She was born on June 16, 1915, in Enterprise, Kan. Virginia was the daughter of Hugh Taylor and Laura “Kilgore” Taylor.
Virginia married Marlin L. Clark on June 12, 1952, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1998.
Virginia retired from Jasper County Family Services where she worked as a social worker and supervisor for more than 20 years. In her earlier years she taught school in a one-room school and during WWII she was an inspector in an airplane manufacturing plant. In Carthage she worked at the Bank of Carthage, Belk’s Department Store and Reynolds.
Virginia was a longtime Carthage resident where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the D.A.R. Rhoda Fairchild Chapter. In her retirement Virginia was active in the Eastern Jasper County Laubach Literacy Center and tutored students to read. She also volunteered at McCune-Brooks hospital gift shop. She loved to travel, read, play bridge with her friends and make quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by one son, Steve Clark of Carthage; two daughters Joann Drost and husband Terry of Carl Junction and Kathy Davis and husband Ron of Marionville, Mo.; one brother Tony Taylor and wife Carol of Dublin, Ohio.; eight grandchildren, Heather “Clark” Gibson and husband Kelly, Shane Clark, Candice Davis and husband Tom, Kari Evans Bruce and husband Greg, Eric Clark and wife Kristin, Joe Davis and wife Eliza, Clay Evans, and Sarah “Drost” Lewman, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, parents and six siblings.
Services for Virginia will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Carthage. Visitation will be open Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, and Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at the Ulmer Funeral Home.
Contributions may be given to the Eastern Jasper County Laubach Literacy Center.
