Mary Frankie Cook, 98 of Carthage passed away at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.  She was born Dec. 3, 1911 in Jasper County, Missouri.  Mary was the daughter of Charles Wood and Saidee “Pace” Wood.  She was a Jasper High School graduate class of 1931.  Shortly after graduation Mary was united in marriage to Robert W. Cook, they enjoyed 50 years of marriage together.  He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1981.

Mary was a longtime California resident, moving back to Carthage 13 years ago.  Her and her husband purchased and ran apartments in St. Charles, Mo.   They owned a company in Los Gatos that made and sold emergency red flares and they also owned and operated a real estate office in Santa Cruz, Calif.   Mary was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Los Gatos, Calif.  

Mary is survived by one sister, Doris Sommerville of Lucas, Texas, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  Mary is preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Wood, Herbert Wood and Melvin Wood and four sisters, Rita Wright, Fern Whites, Pauline Wood and Erma Strecker.  

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Park Cemetery, Carthage.  Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday prior to services at Ulmer Funeral Home.  Contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Nursing Center or St. John’s Hospice in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
