Jerry Dan Pendleton, 69, Joplin, left his family and friends on March 15, 2010, at Freeman West after several years of ill health.

Dan was born April 19, 1940, in Miller, Mo., the son of the late George and Janet Pendleton. He lived in Joplin most of his life. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1958.

He was a former member of the Baptist Hill Church in Mount Vernon, Mo. He served in the United States Air Force and returned to Joplin after his honorable discharge.

His employment in his early years included long-distance hauling for several well-known trucking companies including Tri-State Motor Transit of Joplin and C&H Trucking of Dallas, Texas. His career also included building maintenance at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Motorola, but the love of his life was law enforcement. He retired from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office after 22 years of service.

He loved hunting and fishing and being with the guys in the great outdoors.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Burlingame Pendleton; a daughter, Cynthia Hoffman and husband Ron of Joplin; granddaughter Stacy Burgess and husband Jimmy and their children, Ethan and Ryne; a special cousin, Doug Pendleton and wife Ruth; aunt Mary Kauffman of New Hampshire; best friend Jim Baldwin of Baxter Springs, Kan., and numerous other family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Parker Mortuary.Inurnment will be 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Simon officiating and full military honors.
