Iris Lorraine Stanton, 87, Carthage, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, after a sudden illness.

Iris Lorraine Ralston was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Carthage, the daughter of Oren Ardo Ralston and Alma (Oliver) Ralston. She attended Carthage Public Schools and was a graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1940. She married Sidney Welcome Stanton on Aug. 30, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1981.

Mrs. Stanton for several years was the traffic director of the radio station, KIKS FM and KALN AM in Iola, Kan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage, the United Methodist Women’s Group – Jeanette Williams Circle, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Carthage Crosslines. Iris’ devotion to family was shown by the love and care she gave to her husband, sons and in later years her sister, Vincil. She was a grandmother that showed by example how she lived her life with faith, love and compassion for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons: Lonnie (Kay) Stanton, Topeka, Kan., and Dr. Stephen (Janet) Stanton, Roseburg, Ore.; a sister, Vincil R. Greiner, Carthage; four grandchildren, Dr. Kristi (Dr. James) Monica, Boston, Mass., Ben (Debbie) Stanton, Kenai, Alaska, Dr. Kevan (Joanna) Stanton, New Haven, Conn., and Eileen Stanton, Roseburg, Ore.; two great-grandchildren, Colton Monica and Samuel Stanton; several nieces and nephews; her personal friend and companion, Bill Haughawout, Carthage.

Visitation will be held from 6–7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Rev. James Lee will officiate.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, Mo., 64836, 417-358-2105.
