Wilma M. Steward, 93, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Carthage, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in The Manor at Elfindale, Springfield.
Wilma Steward was born June 4, 1916, in Duenweg, Mo., the daughter of Martin Lown and Maggie May (Atkerson) Lown. She was a graduate of Duenweg High School, Class of 1934 and Joiner’s Business College, Carthage. She married Neal Steward Jr. on Jan. 17, 1942. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1978.
Mrs. Steward and her husband owned and operated Steward’s Photography, Carthage for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Dependable Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Blood Mobile and the McCune-Brooks Hospital Grey Ladies for 15 years.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Baglien, Carthage; a sister-in law, Doradee Kelso, Nevada, Mo.; seven nieces, DeLois Wallace, Mary Ann Hough, Carolyn Gibbard, Barbara Robertson, Connie Beaver, Maridee Devore and Sylvia Tucker; six nephews, Bill Lown, Wallace Lown, Martin Lown, David Bittick, Wayne Lown and Mike Lown. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Harris, Irene Lindsey and Florence Coyner; and four brothers, Byrl Lown, Myrl Lown, Robert Lown and Hyrl Lown.
Visitation will be from 10–10:45 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Knell Mortuary Chapel, Carthage. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Dr. Ray Crews will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
