CARTHAGE, Mo. -

Iona (Mills) Aleshire of Carthage, passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at her home. 

She was one of eight children born to Lorene (Adams) Mills and Leonard Mills on Dec. 12, 1942, in Carthage. Iona was a lifetime area resident of Carthage. She started her career as an Avon representative. Iona later finished cosmetology school and being certified and becoming a hair stylist. She took pride and joy in her home and cooking. She would spend a whole day baking on Saturdays. Her experience with cooking took her to what she does best, helping others in need.  She donated endless hours cooking and serving at the Salvation Army for many years. Iona also donated many hours at the Sunshine Children’s Home Thrift Store. She was a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary at the Carthage Church of God.

Iona married Lloyd Aleshire on March 7, 1960, in Miami, Okla. He survives.

Other survivors include six sons, Russell Aleshire, Robert Aleshire, Randall Aleshire, Bradley Aleshire, Jerrod Aleshire and Curtis Aleshire, one brother, Gary Mills and four sisters, Viola Gerard, Irene Lane, Leona Gilman and Diana Hull. Iona has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death, Rex Mills and Gene Mills.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Ulmer Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
