Bethel “Bob” Jones, 78, of Carthage, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
Mr. Jones was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Moore, Okla. He was the son of Bethel Laster Jones and Mary Elizabeth Shepard. Mr. Jones has been a resident of Carthage for the past 14 years, moving from Bakersfield, Calif. He was a truck driver for Dotson Trucking in Oronogo. Mr. Jones served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of Post #97 in Bakersfield, CA.
Mr. Jones was united in marriage to Peggy Hale. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Danny Jones and wife, Mary of Newalla, Okla., one step-son, Sherman Hale and wife Tammy of Carthage, one daughter, Janet Presley and husband Elvis of Bakersfield, Calif., two step-daughters Vicki Hale and Stephanie Martin both of Carthage, one sister, Betty Pena of California, one granddaughter, Heather Goodenough, one great granddaughter, Madison Goodenough, three step-grandchildren, Vincent, Katelynn and Braxton, nine step-great-grandchildren, Stever Barkley, Miranda Hale, Samantha Stephens, Megan Martin, David Thompson, Nancy Thompson, Stacey Jones, Robert Jones and Gage Jones.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday before services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.
