John J. McGuill, 74, of Carthage, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at his residence.

He was born May 12, 1935, in Beeville, Texas, to Ed and Clara Mae “McCrae” McGuill. He married Janis Williams on July 6, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas. She survives. He worked as a regional salesman for the Morton Salt Company for 36 years, was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Carthage, and was a former member of the Carthage Lions Club. He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Barksdale and husband Bill of Carthage, and Polly Wallace and husband David, also of Carthage. Additional survivors include five grandchildren: John Barksdale, Brenna Barksdale, Beth Barksdale, Grace Wallace and Oliver Wallace. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

 Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. 

Father Bill Hogdson and Reverend James Lee Officiated. David and Polly Wallace sang “On Eagles Wings” and Grace Wallace sang “You Lift Me Up.” Eulogy read by David Wallace.

Pallbearers were John Barksdale, Dennis Neil, Ben Farley, Bill Farley, Joe Farley and Kent Neil. Interment was in Park Cemetery. 

Arrangements were under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
