Betty Jean Carnes, 75, of Carthage, passed away on Aug. 12, 2008, at her residence at 6:10 am.
She was born on March 18, 1933, in rural LaRussell, Mo. She was the daughter of John D. and Ethyl M “Enke” Stierwalt. Betty was employed at Safeway Cheese for 33 years and Leggett & Platt for 13 years. She attended Bible Baptist Church of Carthage.
Betty Jean married Harry R. Carnes on June 3, 1950, at Huntsville, Ark., and they were married for 42 years. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1992.
Survivors include three sons: Harry D Carnes, Keith Carnes and Trystian Spilman all of Carthage, six daughters: Ethel Smith of Granby, Pamela R. Carnes, Mandy Spilman, Brooklyn Spilman, Autumn Spilman & Divine Spilman all of Carthage, two brothers: Harold Stierwalt of Moss Point, Miss., and Clyde Stierwalt of Diamond, one sister: Muriel Pennington of Sarcoxie, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Ulmer Funeral Home.
