Lee Cowan, 83, a long time Carthage resident, went to be with his Lord  at 4:35 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. 

He was born on May 31, 1926, in McNott, Mo. Lee was the son of Earl Cowan and Esther “Kellhoffer” Cowan. He worked at R.G.S. Engineering in the Tool & Dye department for 30 years. Lee also worked for 10 years at Leggett & Platt. He was a member of the Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church.  He was on the Innovative Industries Board from 2004-2007. Lee was a Veteran of WWII in the United States Army.

Lee and Dorothy “Boswell” united in marriage on Aug. 18, 1944, in Columbus, Kan. She survives. To  this union were five children; three sons Bill Cowan of Joplin, Robert Cowan of Carthage and Dale Cowan of Chelsea, Okla.; two daughters, Gail Grigg  of Carthage and Debbie Ulmer of Mt. Vernon, Mo., also surviving is one sister Mildred Minor of Shell Knob, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and  22 great-grandchildren.

Lee is preceded in death by two sisters Eva Mae Rimmer and Irene Carr and his parents. Lee enjoyed his family very much and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church, Carthage. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Van Buren Cemetery, east of Diamond, Mo. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
