Helen R. Dickson, age 96, of Carthage, Mo., passed away at 12:02 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage following one year of ill health.
Helen was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Joplin, Mo., and had lived in the Joplin-Carthage area most of her life. Helen was a Homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Helen married Cecil Dickson Sept. 29, 1931, in Carthage, Mo. He preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1999. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren: Terry Long, and Rick Hurlbert.
Survivors include five daughters, Martha Schriver, and Joyce Sayler, both of Wichita, Kan., Marie Hurlbert and husband Gordon, Walford, Iowa, Alice Benintendi and husband Earl, Asbury, Mo., and Barbara Cherry and husband George, Carthage, Mo.; one brother, John Sandy, Point Loma, Calif.; one sister, Evelyn Amthauer, Topeka, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Sandy, and Lillie Dickson, 15 grandchildren and one on the way, 25 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rev. Gerald Holden officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Her grandsons will honor her life by serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Chapel.
