Gilbert “Paul” Harper Sr., 86, a lifetime Carthage resident, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Aug. 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1924, in Avilla, Mo. Paul was the son of William Melton Harper and Amy May “Kirk” Harper. He was a Dairy and Crop farmer in Jasper County his whole life. Paul was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Alba for over 50 years.
Paul married Dorothy Mae “Wynne” Harper on Oct. 15, 1944, in Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Paul is also survived by a son Paul Harper, Jr. and wife Clara of Carthage; two daughters, Linda Hoofnagle and husband Gary of Carthage, and Jeannie Wells of Carthage; two grandsons, Chad Hoofnagle and Blake Harper; two grand-daughters Chally Downing and Whitney Gallagher; and five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Julia, Savannah, Tucker and Ethan.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Buster, Hal, Jim Tom and Lloyd; and four sisters, Evelyn Graham, Madge Scott, Berneice Carr and Wanda Kean.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Ulmer’s. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Webb City.
