Emilie M. Stemmons, 97, of Carthage, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born on March 27, 1912, in Grant County, Ore. Emilie moved to Jasper County as a child where she was raised. Emilie was the daughter of Walter Schwarzenbach and Mabel “Sigman” Schwarzenbach. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Emilie was a homemaker and a seamstress. She also worked at the C & W Restaurant for 10 years.
Emilie married Truman Neely Porter on March 6, 1936. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1971. She later married Phillip W. Stemmons on July 27, 1974. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1983.
Emilie is survived by two daughters Beverly Baker and husband Charles of Joplin and Mary Lee Quade and husband Ben of Carthage; one step brother Vincil Warren of Lamar; three grandchildren; Sheril Johnson, Kim Sandbothe and Misty Howerton; six great-grandchildren; Kory Johnson, Jason Sandbothe, Kelsey Johnson, Kylee Sandbothe, Austin Howerton and Chance Howerton; and three great-great-grandchildren; Emilee Johnson, Gavin Holly and Lakin Johnson.
Emilie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who will be truly missed.
Emilie is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, one sister and one brother.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Interment will be at Dudenville Cemetery, NE of Carthage.
