James Edward Blades, 64, Carthage, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at his home after a lengthy illness.
James Edward Blades was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Carthage, the son of Walter C. Blades and Mildred (Rimmer) Blades. He attended Carthage public schools, Mark Twain and Eugene Field and was a graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Class of 1964. He married Madeline Johnson on March 27, 1965, in Carthage. She survives.
Jim worked for the CW&EP for 30 years, retiring as the manager of the water and waste water treatment plant. He was a certified tax preparer for H&R Block for 20 years and for the last 13 years was the custodian for the Fairview Christian Church, Carthage. He was a member of the Fairview Christian Church, serving as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and youth leader. He was an avid fisherman, loved to travel with his wife, Madeline, and for many years was an umpire for Pony League, Babe Ruth and Senior League baseball.
Additional survivors include a daughter, LeAnn (Mike) Ness, Sarcoxie; two sons, Michael Alan Blades, Carthage and Kevin Ryan (Tresea) Blades, Carthage; a daughter-in-law, Joette Blades, Carthage; one sister, Diana Montgomery, Carthage; six grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, Jacob, Michael, Kaitlyn and Matthew. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter Ray Blades.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at the Fairview Christian Church, Carthage. Inurnment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
