Roy Owen Goodson, 76, formerly a long time Carthage resident, passed away June 8, 2018 at the home of his daughter, Angela Goodson Abbott, Rogersville, MO, where he was under hospice care for stomach cancer and renal failure.

Roy was a native of Reynolds County, MO, born October 14, 1941 to Roy Lee Goodson and Winifred Leola "Belote" Goodson.

He was the second of three children. He graduated from Van Buren High School (Van Buren, MO) in 1958

He was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Oldham on November 24, 1962. Together they raised four children: Angela Jane, Cheryl Denise, Brian Ray, and Michael Scott. They were married for almost 52 years at the time of Jane's passing.

Roy was a talented auto mechanic who kept many cars on the road for a lot of people. He was an employee of Leggett & Platt and retired from there after 37 years.

Roy was well known for his story telling abilities and had a unique ability to relate even the most ordinary story in the most extraordinary way.

He was also an avid and excellent outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being in the woods enjoying nature. Roy was also an amazing artist and craftsman who created knives under his own brand "ROG" (rogue)

Roy leaves behind his four children, two beloved siblings, Alice Goodson and Ralph Goodson, 22 grand children, 19 great-grandchildren, many, many cousins and other family members, and a host of wonderful friends, all of whom he loved very dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16 at Bykota Church in Carthage, MO at 2 p.m.

Following the service there will be a visitation with light refreshments in the Power House room of the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Home Health of Springfield, MO or Mercy Hospice of Springfield, MO, both of whom we express our deepest gratitude for the wonderful care Roy received.
