Carthage will have an opportunity to slow down and listen to 129 young voices ring in the Christmas season Tuesday evening.
Four Carthage High School choirs will hit the stage 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Carthage R-9 Auditorium to bring the community a collection of Christmas favorites. CHS music teacher Katie Crigger said this free concert is a great addition to the holiday season.
“It's fun,” she said. “We've been drilling competition shows and this is a nice break from that. It's a nice event to get into the holiday spirit, and the kids love Christmas music. It's a great chance to come out and enjoy the kids' hard work and beautiful voices. They deserve it.”
Seniors Courtney Foster and Lindsey Smothers were showing enthusiastic spirit on Wednesday as they talked about their last high school Christmas concert.
“It's sad that it'll be our last one, but it'll be great,” Foster said.
“I might cry when it's over,” added Smothers. “It's hard to believe it's almost over.”
The young ladies, who are members of Sweet Sounds, said they have appreciated the music department whole-heartedly and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
“It's given me a whole new confidence level,” Foster said. “Back in junior high I would wear baggy shirts, and try to blend in with the walls. Now, after show choir, I feel very outgoing – I don't think I could have made it though high school without it.”
The CHS choirs are: Mixed Choral with 33 students; Concert Choir with 36 students; Sweet Sounds with 23 students; and Sound Wave with 37 students.
“I'm a happier person because of it,” Smothers said of her participation in Sweet Sounds.
