CARTHAGE, Mo. -

The Carthage United Way is in the midst of its 2009 fund drive. The goal is to raise $310,000 to distribute to area groups and agencies that help people.

In past issues The Carthage Press told you about the food pantries run by the Salvation Army, Crosslines and the Crisis Center.

We’ve also presented information about the American Red Cross, Camp Quality, the Family Literacy Center, Lafayette House, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, the Jasper County 4-H, the Cerebral Palsy Center of the Tri-County area and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Jasper and Newton Counties.

These are 14 of the 17 agency members of the Carthage United Way that benefit from the money raised in Carthage.

In this issue, The Commun ity Clinic of Carthage questions about its organization.

Our Clinic is open 3 Tuesday evenings a month beginning at 5 p.m..  Our phone number is 237-0400.

What does your service mean to Carthage, Jasper County residents?

Our service in the community means less patients utilizing the emergency room at our local hospital, McCune Brooks Regional Hospital, for routine care.

What does the support from the Carthage United Way mean to your group?

The support from the Carthage United Way helps us to pay our utilities and continue to offer services to clients.  We receive no funding except from the Carthage United Way and donations from organizations and individuals.  All persons involved in the Clinic work as volunteers.  We have no paid staff in our Clinic.
