Carthage Police officers are assisting with a DWI checkpoint that is being set up in Jasper County sometime this evening.
Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan said a few Carthage police officers are helping with the checkpoint, but this does not take the place of the sobriety checkpoint scheduled for the evening of Sept. 20 somewhere in Carthage.
A release from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said this checkpoint is being sponsored by the Southwest DWI Task Force and will focus on individuals who operate a vehicle in an impaired state. The checkpoint is funded with grant money from the state of Missouri.
The release did not say where in Jasper County Saturday’s checkpoint was being held and Dagnan said he didn’t know.
Law enforcement officers are cracking down on drunk driving everywhere.
“Drivers could lose their license, pay large fines, or worst of all, cause a tragic loss of life. It is never worth the risk to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” said Sheriff Archie Dunn.
