Ready to rally for the relay?
The kickoff event for the 2012 Relay 4 Life campaign is going to be a rally, set for 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Lighthouse, corner of Main and Chestnut streets. Jamie Carmickle, who is on the relay committee, is recruiting past team participants and gearing up for this year's theme of “Don't Play Games with Cancer.”
“This is a way to kick things off for the relay,” Carmickle said. “It's a good opportunity to get information out about our relay we hold every year in June. We want to let the public know they're welcome to come and listen to our speaker, enjoy some refreshments and learn about how they can get involved with the relay.”
The relay committee will announce goals, provide forms for new teams, volunteer and sponsors. Ed Moore will be the guest speaker. New this year, the theme encourages participants to use board games in their campaign.
“It's going to be neat to see what everybody comes up with,” Carmickle said. “We're just getting excited for the 2012 Relay 4 Life and celebrate survival.”
To RSVP for the Relay for Life: Relay Rally, call Kathy at 793-1907 or Michael at 793-3217 by Feb. 3. The 2012 Relay 4 Life is set for June 2-3 in Central Park. Every year, cancer survivors and supporters gather in the park to celebrate life, honor those who lost the battle and rally together for hope and encouragement.
