A small child was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Springfield on Friday after he was hit by a mini-van and thrown about 20 feet.
Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan said the accident happened about 7:23 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Oak Street.
Dagnan said the driver of the van was Melissa Wingert, but he didn’t have any details as to what happened or what caused the accident. Wingert was not cited at the scene and Dagnan said the investigation into the accident continues.
He said the child was taken to McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital, then taken by helicopter to St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield for further treatment.
There was no word on Saturday as to the condition of the child.
