Schrader charged with officer assault

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Flyin’ W Convenience Store, 13011 State Hwy. 96, Carthage at 1:34 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, in reference to a fight in progress.

Eddie Ray Schrader, 27, 2305 W. Old Hwy. 66 Blvd., Carthage, was arrested as the result of a follow-up investigation of an assault of Eric David Lightfoot of Granbury, Texas. According to the Jasper County Sheriff, Schrader hit Lightfoot and Lightfoot took off running.  Schrader caught him and kicked and punched him, mostly in the face, while he (Lightfoot) was on the ground.

Lightfoot was transported by EMS to McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital with lacerations, bruising and swelling to his face.

Schrader left the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.

As Schrader was being arrested by Sheriff’s deputies, he resisted and head-butted a deputy, according to the report, resulting in a black eye to the deputy.

Schrader was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center and charged for First Degree, Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer 3rd Degree.

A $25,000 surety bond was posted on Thursday, April 30. His arraignment has been set for 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, before Judge Richard Copeland in Jasper County Circuit Court Div. 5.

The investigation is continuing.

According to the report, The charges for which Schrader was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt.  Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
