A Carthage man was arrested Wednesday after Jasper County Sheriff's deputies and members of the Jasper County Drug Task Force raided a home at 419 W. Mound St., Carthage, and found items related to the manufacture of methamphetamine.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Department said George D. Erwin II, 44, Carthage, was charged with two felonies, one count of possession of chemicals with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Erwin was being held in the Jasper County Jail on $5,000 bond as of Thursday afternoon.
In a written release, the sheriff's department said at 11:05 a.m., Wednesday, officers went to 419 W. Mound St., after a deputy followed up on a lead concerning possible illegal drug activity at that address.
The address is the home if Erwin's father.
When they arrived, contacted Erwin, who had been known to occasionally stay at his father's home.
While they were there, officers found tools and items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine in a bedroom where Erwin is known to stay.
Erwin was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
Four arrested at alleged Jasper meth lab
Four area residents, one from Jasper and three from Lamar, were arrested in a home in Jasper after Jasper County deputies found what they say was a methamphetamine lab.
The sheriff's department said David Wenger, 38, Jasper, and Ricky A. Hornsby, 30; Sarah E. Andrews, 17; and Bryce Frickenschmidt, 20, all of Lamar, were arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail in Carthage.
Frickenschmidt was charged with one felony count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance and held on $10,000 bond.
Wenger was held on two felonies, one count of manufacturing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
He too was held on a $10,000 bond.
No charges were filed against Hornsby or Andrews.
The sheriff's department said deputies and drug task force officers investigated reports of possible illegal activity at 9:29 a.m., Jan. 18 at the home at 407 E. Jackson St., in Jasper.
During the investigation, officers made contact with the four people in the home and discovered items commonly used to make methamphetamine.
