Jasper County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the cause of death of an individual found Tuesday evening in the burned out remains of a mobile home in rural Jasper County.

The body was discovered after firefighters from Jasper and Asbury put out the fire at the home at 20503 State Highway 43, just south of the Barton County line in Jasper County.

Walrod said a weapon was found near the body, but investigators don’t know if the weapon is related to the death or fire.

Walrod said the fire was first reported at 11:02 p.m. Tuesday.

A deputy arrived on scene and found a mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Asbury and Jasper firefighters arrived and put the fire out and were pulling metal debris from the remains when they discovered the body.

Walrod said firefighters know who lived at the home, but they are not releasing that information until they confirm the identification of the body and notify the family. They are not sure at this time if the body found in the mobile home is that of the person who lived at the mobile home.

Walrod said the body has been sent to Springfield for an autopsy to determine identification and a cause of death and the investigation continues with the assistance of the state Fire Marshall’s office and the Jasper County Coroner’s office.
