Kelly W. Smith, a 49-year-old Kenosha man, was charged with distributing and possessing child pornography today at an initial appearance in the U.S. District Court in Milwaukee.

Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Carthage, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for receiving child pornography over the Internet.

Decked out in red and white-striped prison suit and showing no visible emotion on his face, Carthage resident Eddie A. Salazar, 29, quietly entered a plea of not guilty to a false report charge during a video teleconference sentencing Thursday morning inside Associated Circuit Court Judge Richard B. Copeland’s courtroom.

The Jasper County Emergency Services Board voted late Tuesday evening to fire Rich Nordell, director of the county 9-1-1 dispatch center for the past two years, after the board met in closed session.
