St. Ann’s School will hold an Open House and Registration for the 2009-10 school year from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. Registration will be open for students in preschool through sixth grade.
The Montessori-based Preschool Program is taught by a certified Montessori teacher and is available for children — ages 3-, 4- and 5-years-old. Sessions run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays as well as Tuesdays-Thursdays. An Extended Care Program is also available from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Students in Kindergarten through sixth grade can attend from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
St. Ann’s Montessori-based Preschool Program provides children with a hands-on learning environment in which they are able to work independently with the specializing materials in the areas of language, mathematics, practical life, sensorial, social studies and science. In the upper grade levels, students in K-sixth grades are encouraged to achieve their highest learning potential through the use of small class sizes, a multi-age group setting as well as a hands-on learning environment.
St. Ann’s School is in the process of developing a strategic plan, enabling the school to offer a Montessori-based program at the K-sixth grade levels in the near future. Religion, reading, spelling, phonics, language, mathematics, social studies and science make up the core curriculum for these age groups.
Students in third-sixth grades, who participate in the Iowa Test for Basic Skills, have shown outstanding ranking in academic achievement. In the fall of 2008, St. Ann’s School students in grades 3-6 earned their percentile of achievement on the ITBS, and demonstrated the following ranking (same or higher) as compared to other students nationwide. On a scale of 50 percent being an average class score, St. Ann’s students ranked as follows: Reading (90 percent), language (80 percent), mathematics (78 percent) and social studies/science (88 percent).
The mission of the school is Academic Excellence, plus Christian Formation equals St. Ann’s Schools. The education of the whole child — spiritually, academically, emotionally and socially — make St. Ann’s School a leading and unique elementary school in Carthage.
