Even though she has lived in Carthage just since 2003, having moved from California, Katie York is a Carthage Tiger through and through.
Katie, the fifth ranked academic senior at Carthage High School (tied), said the Carthage-Webb City football game, that was won in dramatic fashion by the Tigers in the fall of 2007, is one of her favorite memories of her high school years, and more specifically, her senior year.
“The Webb game is what I will remember the most, said Katie, remembering her time in the stands then pouring out onto the field following the victory. “It’s (memories) all about the things I did with my friends.”
The daughter of Jim and Donna York is planning to attending the University of Missouri-Columbia and major in animal science to eventually become a veterinarian.
“I just really like animals and have always enjoyed the medical field,” said Katie. “I see myself down the road as a veterinarian practicing primarily on equine.”
It has been well documented that Katie’s class will be the last full graduating class from the current building, a distinction that she enjoys.
“I think it is really neat,” said Katie. “I’m really glad I’m not going into the new building. It’s not that I probably won’t like the new building – I probably will – I just like the atmosphere of this building.”
Katie’s mother has the privilege of having the most amount of influence on Katie’s life.
“I have learned so much from her,” said Katie. “She has taught me in so many ways how to handle everyday life and hard times. She means so much to me.”
Katie wants to be remembered by her classmates as a happy and kind person.
“I want to be remembered as being me and not trying to be someone else,” said Katie.
