In this school year of anniversaries, another one is coming up in March when Fairview students, staff and parents celebrate the school's 50th birthday.
Roeshal Franklin, a paraprofessional, and Leesa Loggains, media specialist, both at Fairview, said the students will celebrate the occasion with a day-long party, hopefully including former teachers and staff, on Friday, March 9.
The public is invited to a second celebration from 3 p.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at the school at 1201 E. Fairview Ave.
Franklin said a committee of 8 to 10 Fairview teachers and staff are still planning the events for both days.
“On March 9, we're having an all-school event for our kids,” Franklin said. “It'll be a party day to celebrate the anniversary of our school with our students. We're going to be having some games and we'll celebrate with cookies for all the kids so they can each be a part of it.”
Loggains said the committee is putting out the word on Facebook for former Fairview teachers and staff to contact the school and participate in the celebration.

She said former and current teachers can bring memorabilia and photos from their days in the school to display for students on March 9 and for the public on March 11.
The staff has already set up a display across from the school office.
“When we began, we were the Roadrunners for many years,” Franklin said. “More recently all the elementary schools adopted the Tigers mascot, so a lot of the things you see on display in our foyer, those are things we could come up with from people who are here who were former Roadrunners.”
If you have memorabilia you'd like to share or would like to participate, you can contact the school by Facebook or call the school at 359-7070.
