The Alliance of Southwest Missouri is hosting a training session on how and when to use Narcan, a drug that counteracts the symptoms of opioid overdose.
The deadline to sign up for this training is Thursday, Feb. 8. Two sessions will be held one at 3 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2000 Grand Ave., Carthage.
People can register online at www.theallianceofswmo.org.
The training will allow participants to learn and ask specific questions to a specialist about Narcan. It will cover:
• Opioid 101.
• The risk factors of an overdose.
• How to tell if someone is overdosing.
• Rescue responses.
• Tips to prevent an overdose.
Some people will leave with free Narcan.
People who should attend include law enforcement officers, school personnel, first responders, recovery professionals, parents and the general public.
