The Carthage Press and Carthage School District gives elementary and middle school students a chance to show off in the first day of school flyover.
In 2007, The Carthage Press ran its first aerial picture of the students at Mark Twain Elementary School forming a ring around their school on the first day of classes.
It was an annual tradition at Mark Twain, but that was the first time The Press had taken to the air to take a picture.
In 2011, after taking pictures of the Mark Twain ring for three of the previous four years, The Press offered all the elementary schools a chance to create a new tradition.
In 2013, the Carthage Middle School joined them.
Today, we present the 2017 version of that tradition, the First Day Flyover,
With Carthage Chamber of Commerce President Mark Elliff at the countrols, we circled each school as the students formed messages they will take through the coming school year.
