Carthage police say a man who was burglarizing a home in the 1100 Block of South River was loud enough he woke the residents of the home, who then called police.

Carthage police say a man who was burglarizing a home in the 1100 Block of South River was loud enough he woke the residents of the home, who then called police.

Carthage Police Lt. Jeff Steffen said when officers were arrived they saw the suspect leaving the home.

After a short foot-pursuit, police arrested Jeffrey Tate, 24, Carthage.

Steffen said the incident happened at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning and as of Thursday afternoon, Tate was in the Jasper County Jail awaiting the Prosecutor's decision on criminal charges.

Steffen said the suspect got in the home through an unsecured window and was attempting to steal items as the residents slept.

Paperwork was filed seeking a charge of first degree burglary against Tate.
