It wasn't out of the ordinary for LifeChoices to receive support from the Soroptimist International of Carthage, but an unexpected gift of $500 was delightfully received.
"We just want to say thank you," said Karolyn Schrage, executive director for LifeChoices. "It's not just our organization that is influenced by your loving hearts, it's the whole community. There are so many things that we partner together on for the better of the Carthage area and its surrounding communities."
In 2013, LifeChoices opened a clinic in Carthage to offer medical services for pregnancy detection and care, education and support networking. With a presence in the local high schools, LifeChoices also operates a mobile service to expand services to those in need. This past year, the clinic has seen an estimated 500 clients and administered 1,360 services. Jordynn Griffith, advancement director for LifeChoices, said these numbers are an increase by 50 on both sides from the previous year.
As a philanthropic group of local women, the Soroptimists agreed their efforts go hand-in-hand with the efforts of LifeChoices. The group supplies baby baskets for majority of the clients served at LifeChoices every year, and has a focus to fight human trafficking.
Fundraisers throughout the year make donations from the Soroptimist International of Carthage possible; such as the Spuds 'N' More event in March. The Soroptimists recently gave the "Live Your Dreams" $1,000 scholarship to Sarah Maynard at Mercy Hospital Carthage, and a $500 donation to Bright Futures-Carthage for the snack pack program.
"Our worlds collide and it just makes sense for us to partner and support each other," said Soroptimist Jeanne Poe, during the presentation to LifeChoices.
After hearing more about what LifeChoices offers to expecting young fathers and mothers, members of the Soroptimist group expressed a solidified support.
"They do amazing things," said Soroptimist Lora Phelps.
LifeChoices in Carthage, located at 2337 Fairlawn Dr., is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For questions regarding the organization, please call or text 209-591-TEST.
