Every customer at McDonald's has a chance to share a heart.
A donation of $1 (or more) in the Share the Heart campaign at any McDonald's will give the donor a designated red or pink heart on the windows and walls. More than 60 participating McDonald's restaurants in the Ozarks are helping support the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. The Share the Heart effort will continue through Feb. 28.
More than 7,796 families have found a temporary home at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield since opening more than 23 years ago March 20, 1988. In 2011, the house helped 285 families. The house serves as a home away from home for families of seriously ill and injured children in need of medical treatment in Springfield.
A second Ozarks-area Ronald McDonald House will be built on the sixth floor of Mercy Hospital Springfield (formally St. John's) in 2012. The 8,000-square-foot facility will be located next to a new pediatric intensive care unit. This facility will help families of sick children and high-risk maternity patients with overnight stays in its 10 bedrooms or with daytime visits.
