Recognizing the important role adult males play in the lives of young people, the staff of Columbian Elementary School plans two special nights during the year for fifth and sixth grade students. The first event of the year, Girls Night Out, was held March 10.
It is a time for fifth and sixth grade girls to spend with that special male in their life. This may include dad, grandfather, uncle or another male who serves as a mentor in the life of the girl. The event provides activities for fathers and their daughters in an educational environment while having fun.
Speaker for the evening was Tony Allmoslecher, pastor for Fairview Christian Church. He discussed the important roles that dads play in the life of their daughters. He shared several personal stories about his family, recognizing that the power of love out weighs all, noting that when one is faced with making decisions; the love for another person makes that decision much easier.
Entertainment for the event was provided by the band, “Breaking Away.” Following refreshments, dads invited their daughters for an evening of dancing.
Assisting the staff of Columbian with the event were Wal-Mart Photo Department, Alliance of Southwest Missouri, Boomer BBQ, Kohl’s Department Store, Schreiber Foods, Inc., Grace Episcopal Church, First Christian Church, and XI ZETA CHI chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Jill Waggoner and Christie Wallace served as co-chairmen for this year’s event.
A sports themed event will be held for fifth and sixth grade boys later this year.
