After witnessing the tragic news reports in Joplin, many CaseStack employees were discussing how they could help. There was definitely a feeling of total helplessness.

One employee who had made donations mentioned, “It’s hard to figure out other ways to help if you don’t have medical or emergency training.”  While it was positive to see the team come together with donations, many still felt like there must be something more significant they could do. “I spent an hour last night with the kids hiding under the stairwell at around Midnight.  Anyone who lives around here knows that the tragedy that happened in Joplin could have just as easily happened in Fayetteville or anywhere else.  Many people will be helping with food, water, medical care, shelter and other vital needs.  It strikes me that the best thing we have to offer is job opportunities that could help a few people return to normalcy,” said CaseStack CEO, Dan Sanker, the day after the storm hit Joplin, Mo.

CaseStack, with a regional office in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is a logistics provider that collaborates with retailers and CPG companies to provide warehousing and transportation solutions (e.g. consolidation  logistics optimization) that reduce costs and improve sustainability. The corporate office is in Santa Monica, California.

CaseStack is attempting a unique effort to help in its own small way; working in conjunction with the Missouri Career Center. The team wants to make sure to stay out of the way of emergency service providers, but it wants to at least offer something within its reach.  It will be there on Tuesday, May 31st from 1:30-3:30pm. The address for the Missouri Career Center is 730 S. Wall. It is on the corner of 8th and Wall.  CaseStack will also leave job applications behind with the Missouri Career Center for those not able to attend at that time.  If anyone is interested, they can complete an application on site or send it later.  Then, CaseStack plans to invite those who match with job openings the opportunity to interview later.  It has collaborated with local car rental companies and hotels to make it free and convenient for interview candidates to come visit.  In addition, CaseStack is working with Fayetteville apartment complex owners to get some free rental time for people who relocate, and the Company will create a special moving allowance program to help with any potential moves.

The tragedy is incomprehensible.  But, for some Joplin residents who were spared the worst of it, there is still the simple issue of rebuilding. The ideal situation is for everyone to stay in Joplin, but some people have lost their homes and workplaces, and some may simply have emotional burdens that make staying very difficult.
