Carthage wins 42-7 over Carl Junction

Jasper falls 19-16, Sarcoxie loses 55-0

A 42-7 victory against Carl Junction Friday night means Carthage will be playoff-bound if the Tigers win next Thursday at McDonald County.

Carthage scored on its first offensive play of the game when quarterback Jordan Musser hit Sam Carlton for a 52-yard touchdown pass. The Tigers went into the half leading 21-7, despite three turnovers in the second quarter. Carthage also blocked a Carl Junction punt the Bulldogs eventually recovered for a first down in that quarter.

A Seth Beckner touchdown early in the third gave the Tigers a 28-7 lead, and Cody Ellis intercepted a pass the following Carl Junction possession with the Bulldogs driving in Carthage territory. That led to another Beckner touchdown to give Carthage a 35-7 lead.

Musser connected with Zach Strubberg for another touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Carthage improved to 6-3 and 1-1 in district play, while Carl Junction fell to 3-6 and 1-1.

Liberal 19, Jasper 16

A muffed punt by Jasper led to the game-winning touchdown for Liberal at the end of the first half as the Bulldogs beat the Eagles 19-16 at Liberal.

Liberal moves to 1-8 and 1-1 in district play, while Jasper falls to 0-8 and 0-2.

The defenses cancelled each other out, leading to a scoreless econd half, after a flurry of big plays in a seesaw first half.

Lamar 55, Sarcoxie 0

Sarcoxie falls to 4-5 and 1-1 in district play, while Lamar improves to 8-1 and 2-0.
