Stone’s Throw Dinner Theatre will be conducting a summer camp for kids entering the third grade through the eighth grade next school year.
The camp will run weekdays for two consecutive weeks beginning July 23 and ending Aug. 3. The camp kids will present a play on Saturday, August 4.
Bryan Stinger, a Stone’s Throw board member, initiated the project after getting requests for a camp from some parents in the area.
After getting board approval to move forward with the project, Bryan applied for and received grants from area businesses and trusts to help defray the cost of operating the camp. As a result, the theatre will be able to hold the costs to $125 per student for the two-week course.
I will be heading up the camp. I have already lined up an instructor with 20 years experience as a theatre teacher and I’m reaching out to others with extensive theatre experience.  There will be training in all facets of live theatre including make-up and hairstyling, light and sound, stage managing, set design and construction, directing and, of course, acting.
The classes will run from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily. The kids will be fed lunch each day. The menu will vary but will be kept simple. I’m inviting any interested parent to volunteer to help with lunch prep and serving. I’ll also need a few parents to help check the kids in every day and make sure they get safely back with their parents in the afternoon.
We certainly want the kids to have fun at the camp, but we will strongly focus on their safety and security. There is a place on the registration form where a parent can indicate a willingness to volunteer.
Registration forms are available on our Facebook page, on our website www.stonesthrowdinnertheatre.com or by email at stdinnertheatre@gmail.com. You can, also, call me at 417-358-9665 and I will be happy to mail you a form.
Registration is open until July 15 but class size is limited so register as early as possible.
