A promoter may be bringing “Extreme Midget Wrestling” to Memorial Hall sometime in April.

City Administrator Tom Short told the Carthage City Council’s Public Services Committee that promoter Jeremy Smith had put a deposit down to rent Carthage’s Memorial Hall for a wrestling event involving “midgets.”

It was one of a number of items on the agenda for the two-hour committee meeting.

“The guys who want to rent it are Heaven and Hell Productions EMWF. And they have to provide insurance, they have to hire our police officers for security for the event,” Short said. “It’s a boxing-wrestling type match is what it is and they have to provide a minimum of two officers at the renters expense but in this case, they are talking about serving alcohol and they would have to hire six officers. They would have to have a doctor present. There is also a provision that the city’s Public Service Committee may be required to give permission for it.”

Short said EMWF stands for the “Extreme Midget Wrestling Federation.”

“I thought there was something more politically correct that midget wrestling, but that’s the name of the federation,” he said.

Short said city officials didn’t have a problem with the event but he wanted to run it by council members, who also didn’t protest.

Short said the promoter is still working on plans, including whether or not to serve alcohol at the event.

If the promoter decides to serve alcohol, city rules say the rent for Memorial Hall would increase from $200 to $600.
